Russia uses cryptocurrency intermediaries and ‘disposable agents’ for sabotage operations in Europe

The interview with Kinga Redlowska, Head of CFS Europe at RUSI, examines how Russia finances and organises sabotage operations across Europe through remotely recruited “disposable agents”. Redlowska explains how individuals are recruited via Telegram and other social media for small payments, with funds often transferred through cryptocurrency brokers, informal cash desks and bank accounts. She stresses that following these financial trails can reveal links between seemingly unrelated crimes and help authorities identify the wider networks behind Russia’s hybrid operations.
