Oksana Ihnatenko, Managing Director of CFI, head off to ACAMS Assembly in Las Vegas, which was held in 16th-18th September
ACAMS (Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists) is the world’s largest international membership organisation for anti-financial crime professionals. It focuses on strengthening the knowledge and skills of specialists working to prevent money laundering (AML) and financial crime across a wide range of sectors.
This year, the annual assembly welcomed Oksana Ihnatenko, who received the ACAMS 2025 Rising Anti-Financial Crime Professional of the Year Award after successfully completing the CAMS certification.
The conference highlighted emerging trends in financial crime, particularly the growing involvement of Chinese organised crime groups and credit unions in illicit transactions. This expansion underscores the challenge of combating fentanyl-related flows, which requires a coordinated approach targeting the entire supply chain, from social media platforms to shipping intermediaries.
Crypto is maturing, and stablecoins are getting more attention. To counter new threats, legislation such as the U.S. GENIUS Act seeks to enable authorities to block transactions and establish rules for foreign digital assets. At the same time, digital risks for younger users, including sextortion, continue to rise, emphasising the importance of trust-building and proactive collaboration with law enforcement to strengthen overall financial crime prevention.
As technology advances and geopolitical dynamics shift, financial crime is likely to evolve across new domains. Confronting this growing threat requires us to re-examine existing approaches and develop innovative strategies that keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
