AI and International Policy: A Conversation with Sofia Klymchuk

Artificial intelligence requires strategic regulation to ensure safe and sustainable global development. This topic was at the core of the online lecture “AI and International Policy: A Conversation with Sofia Klymchuk.”

The speaker of the event was Sofia Klymchuk — a national consultant and researcher for the UNESCO AI RAM for Ukraine project, as well as an advisor to the Acting Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine on European integration and international AI policy.

During the session, participants explored how artificial intelligence is transforming various sectors and which tools can be effectively applied in everyday work. At the same time, it was emphasised that the rapid development of this technology requires clear ethical frameworks to minimise potential risks.

Particular attention was given to the European Union’s approach to regulating this field, specifically the AI Act, which classifies systems based on risk levels and establishes strict requirements for high-risk technologies, thereby shaping global standards.

Geopolitical challenges, including armed conflicts and cyber threats, position AI both as a tool for protection and as a source of potential risks. In this context, Ukraine continues its active integration into the European digital space and the implementation of relevant standards.

In the Ukrainian labour market, AI has already contributed to the emergence of new professions and areas of activity, particularly in data analysis, cybersecurity, and the development of intelligent systems, where demand for specialists continues to grow.
